Evildream

Track by Track – English Version

1. How Dare You?

This song is an accusatory wake-up call to all people who support or do not fight strongly enough against climate change, injustice, discrimination or racism. Especially in this day and age, it is important to stand up, be loud and actively denounce grievances. We as a society can no longer tolerate looking away, we are literally running out of time. And one cannot repeat this often and loudly enough: How Dare You?

2. Borders

This song is an appeal to all people, countries and governments who believe that a line on the map can decide where a person belongs. We all live together on the same planet and there is enough space for everyone, why would we want to exclude anyone?

3. In Colour

The title track of the album a clear message: It is a hymn for equality. We are all individuals, a colourful society, and yet we are all one. And that is why every human being on this planet has the right to be treated equally and we as a society have a duty to ensure that this happens.

4. War Is My Business

The song was supposed to be satirical and cynical, but at the moment it is rather laughable. The song deals with how bad and evil a person has to be to earn money with weapons and war. The song presents the thoughts of such a person in an exaggerated and vulgar way, but at the same time one thing should become clear: such a person is abysmally evil and bad.

I wrote this song in March 2021, long before Russia attacked Ukraine and started the first war in decades in Europe. I thought for a long time whether I should really publish the song. But in the end I came to the conclusion that this song is a wake-up call to all those who see violence as a legitimate means to get where they want to go.

Musically, I’m breaking out of the previously established trademarks. The bass beats and raps from MR. HORROX give the song a very groovy character and I can actually say: Evil Dream has never had a song like this before!

5. Never Unheard

A motivational song for the many people who regularly take to the streets to draw attention to climate change and other grievances. No matter how hopeless it seems sometimes, you always reach someone whose opinion you change and that is why you are never unheard.

6. You Against Me

A song about me and my stubbornness, which has brought me conflicts and perhaps also cost me friendships. Have I learned from my mistakes? Maybe, but the song is also meant to help others realise that it’s not always good to get your way at all costs.

7. Bury The Sorrow

A personal song again but this song is not only for me, but especially for you. This is a song about self-motivation and goes out to anyone who just needs a little motivational boost or some uplifting words.

You can do anything you want and if it’s dark after the night some day there will be light.

You have to work on yourself and also admit mistakes, but never let yourself believe that you have to change just because others want you to.

So bury the sorrow and leave the grief behind. Your horizon shows morning lights.

8. Death Of The Leviathan

The Leviathan is representative of every species that humans have already exterminated or are about to exterminate. Through this eradication, humanity is slowly digging its own grave, because no one knows what happens when you remove so many elements from a fragile ecosystem.

9. Fight

A call to all people to fight to save our world. If we all pull together, we can succeed.

Musically very simple, with a little twist towards the end.

10. Save Your Tears

A cover version of a song from The Weeknd.

When I first heard the song on the radio, I knew neither the name nor the artist of the song. But I knew one thing: I will cover this song for the next album.

11. Way To Paradise

A classic Evil Dream song that I knew immediately would be the first single. The new album is clearly different from its predecessors in terms of sound and songwriting. For this reason, I wanted to present a mixture of familiar elements for the first single.

12. My Heart Is Still Beating

Another song about self-motivation, but this time with more pop and cheesiness. I knew immediately that this song belonged at the end, as it closes the album with positive feelings, but also with slightly wistful undertones. Lyrically, he takes his cue from Bury The Sorrow, you can reach every goal you want and no matter how dark the night is, some day there will be light.

Musically enriched with some cheesy elements, but it fitted wonderfully with the experimental direction of the album and is also a perfect last song for an album.

A few words about Bury The Sorrow

The song helped me to rethink my own behaviour and to recognise the mistakes I had made. This was a very positive experience for me and I could work on myself not to repeat these mistakes.

At the same time, I also realised that as a person you have rough edges that not everyone agrees with. And that is a good thing. People are different and that’s what defines us.

Through this experience I was able to recognise much better what drives me and focus on that.

The story of the Standalone Singles

Since I had written quite a lot of songs for the new album, I decided to release a few standalone singles in advance.

Für die Ewigkeit is the only new song with German lyrics and would not have fitted the album.

Actually, I only wanted to release Graveyard Disco as a bonus track. But after I showed the song to MR.HORROX, he really wanted to sing on this one and convinced me to release it as a single.
